Real-time BOL Processing

Here's how DTN TABS provides real-time bill of lading (BOL) information to a seller or marketer:

  1. When a driver for a DTN TABS customer identifies himself at the load rack and inputs the customer number, the terminal automation system (TAS) used by the terminal automatically contacts DTN TABS through an IP connection.

  2. DTN TABS checks its database to see if the customer is authorized to load from the seller or marketer at that terminal. DTN TABS also checks to see if there is an applicable product or credit allocation. If so, the system determines if there is any remaining quantity on the allocation.

  3. If the load is authorized, DTN TABS issues a load authorization response to the TAS. If the driver is denied from loading, DTN TABS indicates the reason for the denial. (You can troubleshoot denied transactions through the Transaction Log and Transaction Log Pro Reports.) In some cases, a seller or marketer may wish to authorize a DTN TABS Global Product Override to enable a driver at the rack to receive product even if a product allocation has been exhausted.

  4. Once loading is completed and the driver is ready to check out, the TAS transmits BOL information to a printer at the terminal and sends an electronic BOL to DTN TABS. DTN TABS uses this data to decrement any applicable allocations and to build and transmit a BOL to the seller or marketer.

Managing Allocations

DTN TABS provides a method for sellers and marketers to set up and enforce credit and product allocations. Credit allocations extend a blanket amount of credit to a consignee or consignee group, where the credit is not tied to a specific product. Product allocations, on the other hand, are tied to a specific product, product group or product family and control how much volume a consignee or consignee group can lift at a given terminal or terminal group.

With DTN TABS you can also set an Open to Buy authorization, one-time authorization to load, or lock out customers from loading altogether.
